Accurate measurements are crucial for perfect patterns. Here's exactly what you need to measure and how:
Count all pages in your book (not including the front and back covers). Make sure to count both sides of each physical sheet.
Tip: Divide the book in half, count one section, then multiply by 2 for faster counting
Measure from the top edge to the bottom edge of a page when the book is closed. Most paperbacks are 7-8 inches tall.
Tip: Measure in the same units you'll use for your pattern (inches or centimeters)
This is not needed for basic patterns! Our generator only needs page count and height to create your template.
Tip: Some advanced patterns may ask for width - this is measured from the spine to the outer edge

Patterns are specific designs (like a heart or letter 'A'). Templates are the tools and blank forms you use to create or customize patterns. Think of patterns as the 'what' and templates as the 'how'.

Yes, but it's very time-consuming! You'd need to manually calculate the fold position for every single page. For a 300-page book, that's 300 individual calculations. We highly recommend using our free generator instead!
Our templates focus on the measure-and-fold technique, which is the most popular and beginner-friendly method. If you're interested in book cutting or other techniques, those require different tools.
The easiest way to create book folding patterns is with our free generator. Just enter your book's measurements, choose your design, and download your custom PDF template in seconds!
